According to the museum documents, the story of the village begins around 1850 …
The prime father Francesco Malvolti, a very estimated man from Orvieto, gets the sealed land by his friend Marquis of Orvieto and divides the property between his two sons Antonio and Luigi.
The farm goes to the courageous and energetic Luigi, and only in a few years it will become the most beautiful and flourishing farm in the country.
The big family of the village Il Borgo Podernovo has given work to dozens of farming families in the past. They cultivated cereals, corn, fruit trees, cattle, horses, rabbits and fowl;
There was even a village blacksmith and carpenter.
But what was really important, however, was the solidarity and appreciation, the respect and reciprocal trust between owners and workers.
Life took its course, and although agriculture has changed completely, we still love our land, we respect laws of nature.
Francesco Malvolti´s heirs love their land, even in times when agriculture has gone through difficult times, combining old with new knowledge.
In 2000, the village made a new beginning by opening the volcanic stone houses to tourists from all over the world. Tourist benefit from the unique oasis of tranquillity in the midst of odours and colours and are welcomed by Carla and Luigi Emilio in a friendly and open way.
Luigi Emilio´s impressive iron and olive wood sculptures are intended to give food for thought of contemporary art.
Borgo’s land runs from the hills of the lake down to the beach and the houses of the village rise majestically on the hills of largest volcanic lake in Europe. The famous Via Francigena also runs along here.
